This is a great article by Isa Alsup.
Seasoned artists should definitely read this.
Below, is just a taste from the blog post.
0Age discrimination is packaged subtly in the U.S. market as well. When an ad suggests “3-5 years experience”, you need to understand that 5 years is considered a maximum. Showing more experience will most likely result in your resume being tossed. Employers in this way are limiting the job pool to workers more or less fresh out of college and those with less than five years experience: effectively cutting out most workers over 30.

Interesting article. The best point is the one you quoted about the 3-5 years experience. I have long suspected what that really means, good to see others do too. In the future I will not respond to such ads as I am way too overqualified for the needs of these fools. Just a waste of time.
Yes, it’s the evolution of the business I suppose with small studios underbidding just to get work, kids agreeing to work for next to nothing and outrageous hours, and a basic collapse of the biz model of VFX. The most important point newbies should take from that comment is – You are now entering a job and not a career. You had better envision yourself like a ball player or a supermodel with an expiration date on your worth as an artists. After 5 years in the biz, you had better have a plan “B.”
