Tabook

https://vimeo.com/237533910

While browsing the bookstore 19-year-old Gwen is unexpectedly drawn to a volume of kinky erotica, earning her disapproving glares from the other customers. Will Gwen follow her deepest desires or will she let her embarrassment restrain her?

‘Tabook’ looks at the subject of sex in a fun loving way, highlighting the taboo that exists in society around embracing sexuality. It was crafted through digital 2D character animation (TVPaint) with paper art backgrounds, and a little bit of CG for the books.

Wishing you a happy International Face Your Fears Day (October 10th)!

From Chris: This piece is a homage to a game that I love. It’s also an exercise in expressing character personality within a strict set of constraints. My goal was to keep the design as simple as possible, while still communicating the unique qualities of the various characters. Additionally, I wanted to limit myself to just using the characters’ heads in the portraits. No guns allowed!...Minus the exception of DVa’s suit...and Bastion’s gun is technically apart of his body.

Big Chicken Small Movie to Life for KFC

https://youtu.be/RA0hHVK2DvM

I grew up in Marietta, GA and know the big Chicken Landmark well... so, I had to post this.

The Big Chicken, landmark extraordinaire and the pride of Marietta, Georgia, reopened on May 11, 2017. To honor the Big Chicken's return, we made a movie. Now, without further ado, KFC Films presents Big Chicken. Small Movie.

A new animated short, Big Chicken Small Movie, pays homage to Marietta, GA’s beloved 56-foot-tall steel fowl. In the film, a young boy who’s a bit of an outcast finds a friend in the gigantic steel chicken, and they go on an adventure in North Georgia.

For KFC franchisee owner and VP of marketing for KBP Foods Anthony Gianino, the film marks the culmination of an exciting project. The beloved “Big Chicken” KFC restaurant reopened to the public May 11 following a $2.2 million renovation.

“The Big Chicken has been a local pop culture icon since 1963. There was a board game in the 70s and for years the Marietta History Museum’s most popular souvenirs have been Big Chicken shirts, ornaments and even bird houses. On New Year’s Eve, Marietta doesn’t drop a disco ball, they drop a Big Chicken,” said Gianino. “And, now, there’s Big Chicken Small Movie -- a sweet celebration of a Georgia town and a giant steel chicken.”

From the beginning, the intention was to make this film as Atlanta-focused as possible. The creative team from Wieden+Kennedy Portland, KFC’s creative agency, is from the Atlanta-area, and Atlanta-based animation studio Awesome Inc was tapped to bring the short film to life.

“We were so excited when W+K reached out to us about the Big Chicken project,” said Awesome Inc founder/EP Ashley Kohler. “As a native Atlantan, I’ve grown up knowing and loving the giant KFC icon. Having this opportunity to work with a world-class agency on a local symbol, something dear to our hearts, was like winning the lottery. We can’t say enough about how collaborative, kind, and supportive W+K has been, how incredible the people we’ve met from KFC were, or how beautiful the renovation is at the franchise. We hope everyone gets a chance to see it at some point!”

For Awesome Inc, known for its TV and commercial work, Big Chicken Small Movie was the perfect blend of interests and the opportunity to honor the local monument in a charming, design-driven tale of friendship that launched on Sunday, August 6: National Friendship Day.

“I remember the first time I saw the big chicken. I was driving around Marietta doing errands and wham! There it was. I thought it was so amazing that I stopped to take a photo and post to my Instagram,” Awesome’s design director, Craig Sheldon, shared. “It’s been really fun and an honor to work on a short revolving around this iconic piece of Atlanta history. Wieden+Kennedy had a really inspiring vision for the project and it’s been a joy collaborating with them throughout the process.”

The Story of Zero - Getting Something from Nothing

What is zero? How did it come about? Hannah Fry tells the story of how zero went from nothing to something.

Once upon a time, zero wasn’t really a number. Its journey to the fully fledged number we know and love today was a meandering one. Today, zero is both a placeholder, and tool, within our number system signifying an absence of a value, and as a number in its own right.

But it wasn’t always seen as that, and it still doesn’t act quite like other numbers. Can you divide by zero, for example? Hannah Fry explains how zero came about, from its origins in ancient civilisations, through the resistance it faced from the Roman numeral system, to being the cornerstone of calculus.

SYNOPSIS
Through the eyes of a young girl suffering from mental illness, CALDERA glimpses into a world of psychosis and explores a world of ambiguous reality and the nature of life and death.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
CALDERA is inspired by my father's struggle with schizoaffective disorder. In states of delusion, my father has danced on the rings of Saturn, spoken with angels, and fled from his demons. He has lived both a fantastical and haunting life, but one that's invisible to the most of us. In our differing understanding of reality, we blindly mandate his medication, assimilate him to our marginalizing culture, and entirely misinterpret him for all he is worth. CALDERA aims to not only venerate my father, but all brilliant minds forged in the haunted depths of psychosis.

HISTORY
CALDERA was helmed by Evan Viera (Director/Composer/Co-Writer) and Chris Bishop (Co-writer/Animation Supervisor/Story Artist) and was produced at Hampshire College. CALDERA was the first film to go through the Bit Films Incubator Program, where founder and professor Chris Perry (co-producer/editor) invites orphaned independent films to be made on campus with the College's students and resources. MANY students and industry professionals generously donated their time to the making of this film. See below for the full credits list.

SALVATION

Noah Harris and Andy Biddle take us on a voyage through time, exploring the virtues and vices of mankind in this mesmerising series for record label, Village Green.

This surreal sequence of interconnecting films tells the epic story of evolution playfully through the detritus of mankind. The birth of a planet in ELEMENT, the growth of the human race in SENTIENCE, and its descent towards the inevitable in OBLIVION, are all created from a multitude of found objects salvaged from car-boot sales and flea markets around london. Animated entirely in camera, the films are a showcase of Noah’s unwavering attention to detail and love of physical objects.

Premiering as part of Channel 4’s Random Acts, the Salvation series is a collaboration between Blinkink & Village Green and showcases highlights from the label’s 2017 catalogue.

SONG OF A TOAD

Picture

“SONG OF A TOAD” is the story of a stressed out human being who is carrying an unbeloved relic from his childhood right on his head – an old choleric toad.

As a grown-up and adapted adult, he tries to ignore this grumpy thing talking from above. But now he is confronted with something he almost forgot.

In a Heartbeat

"In a Heartbeat" - Animated Short Film by Beth David and Esteban Bravo

A closeted boy runs the risk of being outed by his own heart after it pops out of his chest to chase down the boy of his dreams.

From Deadline.com

A short, animated film from an animation intern working at Blue Sky Animation and another student who is now an employee of Jib-Jab and on her way to work as an an animator at Sony on a big Hollywood movie is getting a lot of attention online for its subject matter — LGBT love. Views for the film have grown by over 3M since yesterday afternoon on YouTube and it currently has 14.6M views since releasing only four days ago. In a Heartbeat, about a school boy crush on another boy, has gone viral and getting the attention of numerous celebrities and press across the nation.

Jeremy Edelblut

So, who’s behind it? The two filmmakers are Beth David, 21, from Cincinnati, Ohio and Esteban Bravo, 24, from Mexico City who met at the Ringling College of Design and Art in Florida. Both graduated this year. It was their first film collaboration and they wrote and directed the sweet story together. The total budget? $5K. They began it as a $3K Kickstarter campaign and it not only hit the goal but soared past it to $14K.

Since then, the two have landed representation at Verve. “It’s four-minutes long, and it’s tapped into the LGBT community in an important way. We are so proud be in business with this team,” Verve partner Bill Weinstein told Deadline. He said once they saw the work, they signed them right out of school. “What this shows is that there is a tremendous, under-served audience,” he said. “Verve is proud to help amplify the voices of its minority employees and clientele that make up our community.”

In a Heartbeat tells the story of a closeted boy who runs the risk of being outed by his own heart after it pops out of his chest to chase down the boy of his dreams.

David will be part of the animation team at Sony this year working on Hotel Transylvania 3.

Mended Little Hearts

https://youtu.be/hiLefHwZmE8

Check out the breakdown here: https://youtu.be/xODCdqTWzRo

The MENDED LITTLE HEARTS organization supports children, patients and families suffering from congenital heart disease. To create more awareness of their important work, they commissioned BLACKLIST & STUDIO AKA to create a unique set of animations that illustrate the proposition that the more you donate the better the story gets.

There are five different versions of the animation which range from sparse renders in which most if not all the background is invisible, forcing us to rely on sounds and shadows only for instance - through a version with increasingly more apparent elements; and a final complete rendered version.

The perception of the same story told in different visual renders makes some subtle differences to how the story is perceived and rewards the commitment of the viewer with each successive viewing.
