THE LION'S BLAZE [ Cartoon ]

https://youtu.be/UkeJ-sIvyHw

New Form, an entertainment studio has released a pilot for Lion’s Blaze @ Studio Joho http://www.studiojoho.com/ — an adult-targeted animated series inspired by videogames from Olan Rogers.

Lion’s Blaze is a 2D animated comedy adventure about a group of four friends that have been trapped in an arcade game for 15 years. Just when they think they have the game figured out, one of the friends gets killed. In order to bring back their friend and get out of the game’s world, the group has to go on an epic quest to collect the remaining five “stones of the Lion’s Blaze.”

Rogers, an actor, producer and popular YouTube creator also leads the voice cast, joined by the talent behind his upcoming TBS original Final Space, which includes Conan O’Brien, Gina Torres, Fred Armisen, Steven Yeun and Ron Perlman.

Rogers’ work would not be out of place on Adult Swim, and his latest pilot is certainly appealing to fans of adult animation. In Final Space, Rogers mixed his madcap sensibilities with sci-fi tropes, but here, many of his jokes stem from video game logic and its numerous inconsistencies. If you enjoyed the last pilot Rogers and New Form made together, you’ll probably dig this one, too. There’s no guarantee The Lion’s Blaze will land its own TV deal, but it can at least stand up as a fun and amusing addition to its creator’s digital library.

STEVEN UNIVERSE CREATOR REBECCA SUGAR ON ANIMATION AND THE POWER OF EMPATHY

Article - The Verge by

Western animation is in the middle of a golden age. Shows like BoJack Horseman and Rick and Morty have emerged as the new standard-bearers for a kind of cartoon that’s sharp, funny, and insightful, capable of dealing with startlingly nuanced themes, like BoJack’s honest reflections on the nature of unhappiness. But few efforts in any medium can manage Steven Universe’s trick of exploring topics like intimacy, love, abuse, and the constant threat of annihilation while balancing them with thoughts on the simple joy of eating a hot dog. The series started out as a slice-of-life show about a young boy and his magical family, but it’s emerged as one of the most daring, open-hearted series on television today.

The creative force behind the series is Emmy-nominated writer Rebecca Sugar, Cartoon Network’s first female showrunner. Originally a storyboard revisionist for Adventure Time, she broke out on her own to launch Steven Universe in 2013, blending her love of superheroes and magical-girl anime with a story about a kid not unlike her own little brother, Steven Sugar. Four years later, the show has gotten much more complicated; a recent arc sees Steven abducted by his alien enemies, and being put on trial for his mother’s ancient war crimes. But at its heart, the show is still very much about relationships and family in all their forms.

The Artistry Of 'Samurai Jack'

If you were watching Cartoon Network in the late '90s and early 2000s, you probably have Genndy Tartakovsky to thank for some of your favorite cartoons.

But one of his cartoons stands above the rest as a visual and animated masterpiece — "Samurai Jack." With it's unique drawing style, distinct minimalist feel, and perfectly choreographed action sequences "Samurai Jack" has gone down as a seminal work in cartoon history.

Never having received the ending it deserved, "Samurai Jack" is finally returning to Adult Swim this weekend to finish the epic animated tale started way back in 2001.

Samurai Jack Season 5 Trailer | Samurai Jack | Adult Swim

It has been 12 years since a new episode of Samurai Jack.

But Jack is indeed back. The fifth — and final — season of the Emmy-winning Adult Swim animated series created by Genndy Tartakovsky finds the samurai still trapped in a dystopian future after Aku, the shape-shifting demon supreme Master of Darkness, destroyed all time portals. The bearded, armored-up Jack has stopped aging, a side effect of time travel.

“It seems he is cursed to just roam the land for all eternity. His past haunts him as well as a cult of assassins dedicated to killing him for Aku’s glory.”

Check out this clip from the season premiere, in which Jack faces down an army of robots with his spiked motorbike of death.

Ned Flanders Metal Band

Ned Flanders From ‘The Simpsons’ Inspired Metal Band

Ok, now I have heard everything.

Metal band called Okilly Dokilly inspired by the The Simpsons’ Ned Flanders? Would you be excited? Because this is a real band, purporting to be the first and only “Nedal” band. Get it?

Ned Flanders From ‘The Simpsons’ Inspired Metal Band

“Most of our songs are direct Ned quotes.”

Straight from Arizona, every member of this band is dressed as Ned Flanders, and their names are all different rhyming versions of the character. There’s Head Ned on vocals, Red Ned on Synth, Thread Ned on bass, Stead Ned on guitar and Bled Ned on drums. And if you’re curious as to what a Ned Flanders metal band sounds like, you can check out their demo below.

VFX Community Planning Protest During Oscars

From Hollywood Reporter:  A small plane with a banner that reads “Box Office + Bankrupt = Visual Effects vfxunion.com” is scheduled to fly over the red carpet on Sunday.

The visual-effects community is planning a demonstration during Sunday's Academy Awards to force the film industry to focus on the economic problems threatening Hollywood's visual-effects houses.

Many in that VFX world argue that effects houses are struggling because of a business model that doesn't work, and they point to Rhythm & Hues Studios -- the VFX house behind the CG tiger in Oscar-nominated Life of Pi -- and the fact that it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Feb. 13 as the latest evidence.

A small plane with a banner that reads "Box Office + Bankrupt = Visual Effects vfxunion.com" will fly over the red carpet on Sunday, according to the demonstration's organizers.
PHOTOS: Oscars 2013: 16 Icons Come Together for THR's Oscar Issue

The plane will take off from Compton/Woodley Airport, where VFX pros will be gathered. A second group plans to assemble in the Hollywood & Vine area, near where celebrities and filmmakers will be arriving to walk the red carpet, in order to attract media attention.

Dave Rand, an artist at Rhythm & Hues, said the aim of the effort is “awareness. We are not disrespecting Life of Pi or Rhythm & Hues. We are trying to enlighten the studios that they are taking their racehorse and beating it to death.”

Some of the factors that are currently affecting the industry include intense competitive bidding that leads to companies taking on projects at low, fixed bids; globalization as government incentives and cheap labor abroad have created an uneven playing field; and tight profit margins (often 5 percent or less) that can be endangered if a project is canceled or delayed.

Organizers do not know how many artists will participate on Sunday, but according to Rand, the group will not be limited to those affected by the R&H bankruptcy.

Rhythm & Hues filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week and is aiming to quickly complete a sale of its assets. It has identified several parties who are interested in acquiring the company.
