Escape, an animated short

https://vimeo.com/214537001

A cinematic poem about the world-changing power of invention, the short film Escape is the latest example of animated storytelling that showcases state-of-the-art Dolby technologies. Combining techniques such as miniatures and animation with the spectacular imaging of Dolby Vision and the moving audio of Dolby Atmos, Escape invites the audience to imagine and experience a joyous vision of the future. It is a story of persistence and passion that is intended to inspire individuals to never give up on their hopes and dreams.

After crash-landing on a desolate planet, a lone space explorer must find a way to make her new home habitable. The teenage heroine is an older version of the central character in our Emmy award–winning film, Silent, known there as “the Kid.” This intrepid character displays courage, passion, determination, and curiosity as she transforms the barren landscape she has found into a beautiful planet.

Singer Imogen Heap developed an original soundtrack that wraps the audience in Dolby Atmos sound, unveiling the lead character’s changing emotions as she faces the challenges of a dark, disturbed landscape and persists to transform it into a place of joy and delight.

Release from Heaven

Release from Heaven, directed by Ali Noori Oskouei, is an enchanting mixed-technique animation project which blurs the lines between imagination, storytelling and reality. Set in a war-torn country, the film follows a school teacher and writer named Sareh. When she has to take two of her students to find their father, she tries to keep them calm on the perilous journey by telling them stories. When the little group discovers a cave that is exactly like one from Sareh’s stories, she finds out that the hero of her imagination is real. Determined to find him, she becomes a hero in her own right in the eyes of her students. The film is also screening at Cannes on May 22 at 8 p.m. in Gray 1. Making of A Monster Calls (Animation Sequence)

More than two years ago, Glassworks Barcelona teamed up to direct and craft the two animated stories embedded in “A Monster Calls”, J. A. Bayona’s new movie, based in the homonymous novel by Patrick Ness. Two metaphorical fables that help understanding episodes of reality that are difficult to explain through traditional narrative.

After all this time, and despite the research work done, it’s also very complicated for us to put in words what this experience has meant. This project enabled us meeting wonderful artists, with whom we had never collaborated before; people more fantastic than the tales we all made possible. Thanks everyone for putting all your love and a little bit of your life in these stories.

Buck's Sherwin-Williams “Safari”

In 2009, we were asked by our friends at McKinney to explore a world made of color, literally. The Sherwin colors themselves are the cast of their own story of infinite possibility, taking us places that spark our sense of curiosity, exploration, and expression. The campaign's success has brought a level of charm and nostalgia to the brand through quiet storytelling, a respite from the cacophony or modern advertising. After over a dozen iterations of the campaign, We continue to collaborate with our friends at McKinney to tell stories that capture the essence of "home." Your walls are the quintessential blank canvas for your next adventure.

Pandora’s Box

Pandora’s Box is an alternate definition of the greek myth surrounding Pandora and the container/box she is given. This reawakening envisions Pandora releasing time itself to rule as the cause, evil being the effect. Answering the curse of this relentless flow of less
time, we are forced to save and pass on through a transition from death to renewal. The 4th chapter honors the end of one time and the hope in the beginning of another. This is an alternate definition of Pandora’s Box – Time.

ICARE (Icarus)Teaser

From Cartoon Brew... The Greek myth of Icarus serves as the basis of the film, but there are some new twists to this classic tale about a boy who flies too close to the sun. “The idea is to imagine the youth of the young Icarus, a part that goes unmentioned in the myth as we know it,” Vogele told Cartoon Brew. In Vogele’s version, the story will focus on the friendship between Icarus and the Minotaur, both of whom are portrayed as outcasts.

The logline:

The cheerful gods of the Olympus are rewriting the myth of “Theseus and the Minotaur” from the perspective of Icarus, who befriends the young Minotaur hidden in the royal palace of Knossos. When King Minos imprisons the “monster” in the secret labyrinth, Icarus risks it all to save his childhood friend and becomes entangled in a tragedy of manipulation and betrayal.

The Greek gods—Zeus, Poseidon and Aphrodite—serve as the narrators and spectators of the story. They are re-imagined as newspaper journalist-gods who are trying to craft their version of the story, and the story switches between them pulling the strings from above and the mythological story in ancient Crete. The gods are cg characters, but rendered with flat lighting to merge with the painted backgrounds, “like a moving illustration” Vogele described.

Ancient myths are the wellspring of contemporary superhero stories, and Vogele believes that returning to the source will yield rich material for a film. “The mythical heroes are ruthless and relentless,” he said. “They are archetypes who will sacrifice anything and anyone to fulfill their mad passion, no virtue too big, no vice too cruel. Their lack of empathy is truly chilling, but they are the bright-eyed defenders of their own justice and integrity, which makes them fascinating.”

Nicolas Steil, Iris Group CEO and producer of Icarus, is setting up the film as a co-production with still-to-be-determined studio partners in Belgium and Germany.

The family film has a targeted completion date of 2019. The budget is undisclosed for now.
