LINE OF ACTION: Sadness is defined by the furrowed brow and down turned corners of the mouth. Crying brings even more intensity. The most important line of action furrowed brow that pushes against the eyelids. The down turned mouth sells sadness with the brows. The cheeks fall as the mouth pulls them down yet there is tension as the squinted eye pull them up at the same time.

DEFINITION: Sadness is an emotion characterized by feelings of disadvantage, loss, and helplessness. When sad, people often become quiet, less energetic, and withdrawn. Sadness is considered to be the opposite of happiness, and is similar to the emotions of sorrow, grief, misery, and melancholy. Sadness can be viewed as a temporary lowering of mood (colloquially called "feeling blue"), whereas depression is characterized by a persistent and intense lowered mood, as well as disruption to one's ability to function in day to day matters.
