PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:

Angie Jones is a distinguished character animator and animation director/supervisor recognized for her contributions to Oscar-winning films and for receiving accolades such as a Clio and a VES award. Her expertise is creating photorealistic and stylized animation performances spanning various character and creature animation styles. Known for her ability to seamlessly transition between portraying charming and menacing characters, Angie’s dedication to storytelling elevates her work to deliver unique performances that surpass mere scene requirements.

As Animation Director and Lead, Angie collaborates closely with directors and VFX supervisors to conceptualize and execute character performances and sequences. Her extensive credit list includes involvement in 18 feature films, 78 commercials, and 28 AAA video game titles.

Angie directed internal and external animation teams for the Mill on the VALORANT: UNITED cinematic trailer for Riot in 2024. In 2022, she supervised teams for three cinematics trailers for FORTNITE: JONI AND THE RED CREW PACK, FORTNITE: PARADISE, and FORTNITE: FRACTURE. As a Character Animator at Weta Digital – LA, Angie contributed bespoke keyframe animations for the upcoming “AVATAR 2” feature, slated for release in 2020. At Cafe FX/Syndicate, she also crafted animations for various characters in “PAN’s LABYRINTH,” including faeries and stick bugs in 2005. Her work as a creature animator at Cinesite (2002) – Hollywood involved creating motion for notable characters such as the Nightcrawler’s Tail in “XMEN 2” and the “Freddy-pillar” in “FREDDY VS. JASON.” Angie’s contributions extend to Sony Pictures Imageworks, where she animated characters like Stuart Little and Margalo in “STUART LITTLE 2 (2001)” and Papa and Smurfette in “THE SMURFS (2010)” movie.

At Rhythm and Hues, she spent 2003 showcasing various creatures and VFX elements for films such as “GARFIELD,” “SCOOBY-DOO 2,” and “THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE,” along with the iconic GEICO commercials featuring the gecko. Additionally, she provided animation performances for video games like “ODDWORLD: ABE’S EXODUS” and MUNCH’S ODDYSEE.”

As an Animation supervisor at Digital Domain, Angie led teams in creating four “DISNEY 50th ANNIVERSARY” Commercial Spots from 2004 to 2007. She demonstrated versatility by working on commercial and feature projects, contributing to works such as “THE HITCHER” and “ZOOM ACADEMY.”

As Animation Director at IMAGEMETRICS and Angel Studios/CAPCOM Japan, Angie led teams on various video game projects, overseeing aspects such as creative approval processes, mentoring structures, and animation workflow design. Notable projects include “ASSASSIN’S CREED 2,” “ARMY OF TWO: 40TH DAY,” “BLUR,” “GOD OF WAR III,” and “RED DEAD REDEMPTION.” Additionally, she facilitated collaboration between Angel Studios and CAPCOM Japan for games like “DINO CRISES 3,” “ONI 2,” “RED DEAD REVOLVER, SMUGGLER’S RUN 2: HT,” “MIDNIGHT CLUB 2,” and “TRW SURF.

Angie’s diverse roles encompass Director of Animation, Creative Director, Animation Supervisor, Lead Artist, Senior Animator, and more. She brings a wealth of experience from production, technology/software development, and educational/training environments within the VFX and Animation industry. Her passion lies in tackling challenges at the intersection of digital technology and performance animation, and she is keen on exploring new media.

Angie holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Electronic Arts from The ATLANTA COLLEGE OF ART and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from LAGUNA COLLEGE OF ART + DESIGN. She has authored three books on animation, taught at esteemed institutions such as the GNOMON SCHOOL OF VFX, IANIMATE.NET and BRASSARTS, and served as a full-time professor at the University of Southern California for seven years. She also developed curriculum content for the new diploma program at CG SPECTRUM SCHOOL OF ANIMATION AND VISUAL EFFECTS.
