Must Have Animator Tools: Pose2Shelf
MUST HAVE ANIMATOR TOOLS
POSE2SHELF
The Pose2Shelf.mel Script: This script will let you do two simple and insanely useful things for animators: posing and setting many keys on characters. The tool is also great for animators who are doing a lot of animation transfer onto characters because you can define your selections easily:
It has a single super simple UI that lets you:
- Save and label the setAttr (pose) commands for all keyable attributes of all selected nodes to your shelf with a single button!
- Save and label your current selection set on the shelf with the push of a single button.
I use this script all of the time because…
- Not all studios let you bring in GUI plugins and install them on their machines (especially if they are Java-driven).
- This is just a .mel script, so most IT departments do not sneer at you using it.
- You can create selection sets without all the extra nodes the Create —> Selection Set Maya tool makes in the outliner (this is what AnimBot uses to create selections BTW)
- Also, The Create select set doesn’t specifically select nodes like pose2shelf does where you can go into the shelf and revise the .mel.
- Sometimes, I want my own selections and poses outside of what the show has provided, so this is a light solution to making my own shelves.
- You can easily recreate the GUI shelf for additional rigs that are similarly built.
