Particles FX & environments created with Trapcode Suite

Although this project was initiated as an homage to Visual Music by creating abstract animations closely linked to music, and more specifically to the works of Walter Ruttmann and Oskar Fischinger, it quickly took off on its own path. Because of the origami bird, I wasn’t in complete abstraction anymore, and the whole thing became more “stylized” than “abstract.” Except for the bird, everything was created with particles and Trapcode Suite.

Super Magic Hats - Sleepless

'Sleepless' by Super Magic Hats, from the new album 'Wish'.

Hypnagogia is the transitional state between wakefulness and sleep... You start falling, then you're slowly running, you start dreaming of lunch, dancing, and shape-shifting into a guy with a million eyes.

Directed and animated by Lee Arkapaw and Tessa Chong

A music video made entirely from wood for a song by bedtimes.xxx/music, WoodSwimmer is based on a concept I developed while designing a new stop-motion universe where wood is the primary element. The sequences are cross-sectional photographic scans of pieces of hardwood, burls and branches. It is a straightforward technique but one which is brutally tedious to complete.

I worked closely with Warren and Nick from W&N studio to bring this piece to life over the last few months. We started with allot of experimenting in 3D, exploring the themes of death and decay, transformation and rebirth. Bjork fell in love with the organic/biological tests we had done early on and we set out to build on this theme.

We used Maya and V-ray as our rendering platform and Houdini to generate the detailed growth systems.

Many thanks to W&N and Bjork for the opportunity to run wild and create something rad.

Flying Lotus - Tiny Tortures

Pulse Films Directs Elijah Wood in Flying Lotus New Video “Tiny Tortures”
from the album: “Until the Quiet Comes”
Gotta See – video and the making of video
In this hauntingly beautiful music video for Flying Lotus' (Warp Records) track "Tiny Tortures," Pulse Films' director David Lewandowski takes us on a twisted journey into the mind of a recent amputee played by Elijah Wood, whose possessions slowly self-assemble to build him a new arm.

Elijah Wood (The Hobbit) convalesces in bed with a bandaged stump in place of his right arm. Maybe it's magic, or meds, but his room slowly comes alive to create a bionic replacement and transport him into a fractal fantasy where his limb fully regenerates. It's all a dream, maybe the result of watching Akira too often — but he wakes up to a change in his condition that proves something happened in his altered state.

"The impetus for this idea was from a director called Jaume Collet-Sera," said Lewandowski. "He was slated to direct a live action version of Akira. I really liked the idea of someone doing all this telekinetic, hallucinatory, visual stuff on a big budget level. And then the project got cancelled. The thought of seeing that all photo-realistic really excited me, and then the project went away so I said I just have to do that kind of animation. So I wrote an idea from that despair of really wanting to see really interconnected, mechanical, psychic floating objects."

Rendezvous - The Murf

While in gad school this past year, I got really behind on my emails.  This animated music video was in my email box - overlooked.  I am a big fan of such clean design.  Below, is the press release.
Pittsburgh based animator Scott Benson has made a breathtaking video, "The Murf", by live electronics duo Rendezvous, dealing with the story of creation, technological evolution, pondering the circle of life and the passage of time from past to future and back again. With beautifully crafted animation Benson connects the dots between the micro and the macro, between the story of humanity and that of the universe.

Occupy Parler le fracas by Le Peuple de l'Herbe

Le Peuple de l'Herbe - Parler le fracas -... by phofficial

Lyrics are subtitled for those of you who do not speak French.
Réalisation : Wasaru http://www.wasaru.com/
Character Design : Jebedai http://whozjebedai.blogspot.fr/

I really dig the look and style fo this music video... and the message is interesting, too.  Parler le fracas by Le Peuple de l'Herbe is a politically-like hip hop song, shadowing the recent French presidential elections.  Orwellian Animal Farm iconography conflict with the Occupy Wall Street era. Pigs in riot police gear ready to take out the disenfranchised industrial workers.  Hundreds of other small animals, led by a goose combine forces to create a new Armageddon.

From the artist: Hi Angie and Jamie my name is Dave Pen and I'm emailing you with regard to you seeing a wonderful animated video that has been made for a song I wrote.  The song is called Nature regulate, the band is called BirdPen - and the video was made by an Iranian Artist called Pooya Abbasain. The video was selected for this years Pictoplazma animation festival in Berlin which was this month. The video follows the lyrics of the song and is about feeling trapped and trying to break free for the sometimes oppressed and trapped world we live in.. I think the best way to understand the video is to watch it and listen to the lyrics to get the full meaning..

Back to the Start

Coldplay's haunting classic 'The Scientist' is performed by country music legend Willie Nelson for the soundtrack of the short film entitled, "Back to the Start." Download the song now available on iTunes. Label and proceeds benefit The Chipotle Cultivate Foundation. http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-scientist-single/id458479961

The film, by film-maker Johnny Kelly, depicts the life of a farmer as he slowly turns his family farm into an industrial animal factory before seeing the errors of his ways and opting for a more sustainable future. Both the film and the soundtrack were commissioned by Chipotle to emphasize the importance of developing a sustainable food system.

Ok Go and the Muppets

Panda Bear

It's probably because I am back in art school getting my MFA, but I am not inspired by any commercial animation these days.  Send me anything you think is top notch because I am not finding it.  Love this Bjork video though.

Wheels and Love

Massimo Ottoni hand painted every frame on glass, gets really good around 1:10

From the muscician:

The video is an animation by artist/animator Massimo Ottoni. Massimo used an experimental animation technique called “paint-on-glass”. Every single frame is hand painted on glass (he’s been locked away in his camera room for months). I recorded the first half of the song singing and playing directly in my mobile phone, in the garden, and then added the rest of the arrangement in my home studio.

I am an independent Italian singer-songwriter. My primary instrument is the guitar, but I play almost everything I need to record my songs: piano, bass guitar, banjo, drums.  Dream Song, the opening song of my first self-released album (Dreamsongs).
